This week's staffroom playlist is being brought to you by Melissa Hanby.

To Do List: I'm working on...

  • Final Yard Duty Schedule
  • Final Schedules for music and PE
  • Assessment/Rti Calendar
  • Adjunct Duty List for 18/19

Thank you: Thank you for your flexibility with regards to the First Responder Day! IT was amazing!

BTSN 18/19: We are continuing to work on building class lists for next year, but our numbers are increasing incredibly. Currently, we are at 691 students for next year. The plan to inform parents about who their teacher is is similar to last year.  Front office will build you a distribution list to email your families. Included in that email is a quick presentation of your classroom, policies, rules, etc. This is just what you show them already, just narrated by your voice possibly using screencastify or making a video. Rich will be donating his talents to support staff through making a presentation on the following dates after school. By sending out these presentation before hand, we will truly have a meet and greet on BTSN and then have our tailgate. Thank you all for always being innovative and supportive of new ideas.

Rich's Screencastify support days:
5/31 @ 3:30
6/5 @ 3:30

*Computers over the summer: If you plan on taking your computer home for the summer, please sign it out with Rene. If you want to leave it here, please sign it in with Rene.

*Moving Rooms: There are many moving parts to moving rooms. First and foremost, respecting each others space. We also need to maintain consistency for our kids. Moving too early may cause more challenges in your class. Please follow these expectations when moving classrooms this year.

1. You can begin taking your supplies to your new room starting 6/2. Please talk with the teacher currently occupying the room to see when a good time to move in is and where a good space will be to put your stuff. We have to keep in mind, classrooms have to be left in a state that allows them to be cleaned.

2. We will still have to check you out of your old room using the check-out form.

3. Please make sure the POD is also free of unnecessary debris. These areas need to be deep cleaned too.

*Digital Literacy: A part of digital literacy is a typing program. This is only one aspect of the digital literacy program, but it's a program the district is going to support for all schools.

BLOG Focus Article: Too often we wait for someone with a certain job description to “fix” a seemingly broken culture, and while it is certainly frustrating when the one tasked with leading doesn’t rise to that occasion, we have a moral imperative to step up to the plate to make our schools places where humans grow and thrive because our students and those who work on students’ behalf deserve it.  If we all take responsibility for influencing school culture, how can we best leverage our influence?

5.Make your WHY transparent.

The hardest thing to overcome when changing a culture is a broken why. An example of a “broken why” in the field of education is someone who wants results on paper at the expense of real results for students, i.e, they’re willing to go to great efforts to increase test scores even if those efforts don’t, in the end, produce more driven, accomplished, engaged students.

The good news is that most people who have daily contact with students have a very intact why. It’s rare that someone who works in schools doesn’t want best for the students he/she serves. Most of the conflict I’ve observed in schools is a result of one person not fully understanding the other person’s intent. Rarely would we argue about policy or practice if we thought the person who was behind that policy or practice truly wanted what was best for students. We get in trouble, though, when we don’t bring that why to the table and surface it for all to see. The most important advice to remember when trying to impact change is to lead with your why. Always.
Note: Dates may change. Please continue to double-check the google calendar to confirm dates.
